Structural Changes in SAP Bundle Patches New!

As of June 2014, there is a change in the internal structure of the SAP Bundle Patches (SBPs) for Oracle. While this has many benefits, applying the new SBP for the first time requires special handling. For more information, see the hot news SAP Note 2011199.

When looking at note 2011199 I found due to the changed structure and to identify stand alone patches it is recommended to run the bpmig.sh script.

To avoid these problems or to detect them before actually installing this SBP, you must run the bundle patch migration script bpmig which is delivered with MOPatch 2.1.16 and later.

The script comes up with an error message:

Cannot determine SBP version from "SAP Bundle Patch 11.2.0.3.2 - 201205".

opatch / mopatch semselfs seems to function properly...

Any clues?

Settings of audit_syslog_level

Hello,

I have a technical question concerning the setting of parameter audit_syslog_level:

we are recommended to audit events err, crit, alert and emerg.

But in parameter audit_syslog_level I can only define one combination, for example:

audit_syslog_level=local6.err

This I define in /etc/syslog.conf too:

local6.err /var/log/oraclaudit.log

Will this adjustment log critical, alert and emergency events too or just errors?

AUDIT_SYSLOG_LEVEL

Syntax: AUDIT_SYSLOG_LEVEL = 'facility_clause.priority_clause'

facility_clause::=

{ USER | LOCAL[0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7] | SYSLOG | DAEMON | KERN | MAIL | AUTH | LPR | NEWS | UUCP | CRON }

priority_clause::=

{ NOTICE | INFO | DEBUG | WARNING | ERR | CRIT | ALERT | EMERG }

Gather Monitoring statistics

$

Hi Folks,

I want to create a report (or a z program) which runs all these below t codes in background and provide the required information as mentioned:

  • run st22 and give no of dumps
  • run sm36 and list all cancelled jobs for a given day
  • run sp01 and provide no of spool created, processed, waiting and error for a given day
  • run db12 and provide backup runtime details
  • run al08 and give no of users for each server
  • run sm37 and list all cancelled/error jobs
  • run scot and register status of all nodes
  • run scot and give no of failed messages
  • run sost and provide no of failed requests
  • run db13 and provide status of update statistics job
  • run se06 and provide status of flags
  • run st06 and provide value of cpu idle time and page memory used
  • run smms and provide status of message server
  • run sm51 and provide status of servers

Currently, we have to do all this manually by running each t-code, however we want to automate this to save our time and efforts on monitoring.

How can we do the same without using external monitoring tool? Looking for the options other than CCMS.

Hi,

we have a portal system and i have performed an online DB-Backup using brtools.

Like DB02 in ABAP Stack, is there a way to display the status of the Backup either using NWA at SAP level or using brtools at OS level ?

Thank you,

Mohan.

Hybrid Columnar Compression

Hi all,

Following the SAP note 105047, SAP does not support the Oracle feature Hybrid Columnar Compression (HCC).

Following the Oracle document linked below, Hybrid Columnar Compression can be used for SAP but alignment with SAP is required.

http://www.oracle.com/oms/oracleday/exadata-sap-01112011-ma-1375081.pdf

Does anyone know what is this "SAP alignment" ? Is it a kind of certification, support extension ?

brbackup / brrestore - missing origlogA, origlogB, mirrlogA, mirrlogB (and some cntrl files)

Hello SAP techs.

We have run into an issue that has me really stuck.    In the past, we have never had issues restoring a system when needed.

This week however, we ran into an issue and had to restore DEV.

Upon compleation of our restore - we noticed that the following directories were left empty (and no files were backed up or restored on):

mirrlogA

mirrlogB

origlogA

origlogB

(and most of the control files).

Can someone tell us if this looks correct?  and if so, how do we ensure our mirrlogs and origlogs get backed up.

We are using online backups using brbackup / brrestore only.

Thank you everyone

Richard

BRTools Backup

Hi,

Currently I am backing up my AIX Oracle DB 11g for system refresh.

These are the steps that I have done so far,

*Few notations that I use are SSID (SourceSID) TSID (TargetSID)

I also taking backup to a shared drive, connected to AIX as CIFS connection.

     in the CIFS connection this is the pattern that I followed.

          shared_drive/Backup        ---> for backup_root_dir & stage_root_dir

          shared_drive/Redologs      ---> for archive_copy_dir & archive_stage_dir

The following steps I am doing in the Source system (which I am taking the backup from)

1) create control file (alter database backup controlfile to TRACE as '/tmp/SSID.ctrl' ; )

2) copy out control file to pc

3) rename system name to TSID , change the line:

CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE ‘SSID’ NORESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG;

as follow

CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE SET DATABASE ‘TSID’ RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG;

4) backup and replace initSID.sap in source system to use share drive as backup by changing following parameters:

backup_type = offline

backup_dev_type = disk

backup_root_dir = Create Backup Folder and provide their path like   "shared_drive/Backup"

stage_root_dir = Copy Same Path which you have given to back_root_dir

archive_copy_dir = Create Redologs Folder & Provide their path like  "shared_drive/Redologs"

archive_stage_dir = Copy Same Path which you have given to archive_copy_dir

5) use brtools to backup source database

6) backup and replace initSID.sap in target system to use share drive as restore by changing folllowing parameters:

backup_type = offline

backup_dev_type = disk

backup_root_dir = Create Backup Folder and provide their path like   "shared_drive/Backup"

stage_root_dir = Copy Same Path which you have given to back_root_dir

archive_copy_dir = Create Redologs Folder & Provide their path like  "shared_drive/Redologs"

archive_stage_dir = Copy Same Path which you have given to archive_copy_dir

So in the above steps a few questions,

In step 3 should I change the whole document from SSID to TSID? I mean to say all the files that are pointing to SSID should be changed to TSID or BRTools will take care of that?

Also the backup is going to take 3days?? So does the same steps apply if I am going to do for online backup?

Hi Guys,

I have a pure JAVA portal system installed on HP-UX and oracle database.

i have been recieving alerts

Oracle database is open but cannot connect with OPS$SIDADM user.

So my questions are .

1) How to test database connectivity between pure SAP java and oracle database?

2) How is connection established in SAP java and Oracle Database ?  I mean what plays an important role in this connection?

I think JDBC is the main component , but how to test connection using it?

R3trans -d is not appropriate as it is for testing connection between SAP ABAP and oracle database , SAPUSER table is also created in ABAP .

Kindly help me im clearing this concepts?

Freeing up Disk space

Hi all,

I have just done an offline table reorg for all tablespaces using brtools and oracle 10g, with the intention of dropping some datafiles and allocating them elsewhere.

But even though I now have 90G free I am unable to remove any datafiles.

How do I remove these datafiles or resize them properly?  I've read countless postings but none of them result in the space saving I can see in dbacockpit.
