We are looking into an infrastructure refresh for one of our SAP customers. A number of options are under consideration, one of them being the use of Oracle Private Cloud Appliance for the database layer. So far there was just a brief meeting with Oracle hardware reps around this option and not all aspects could be covered in that short time frame. Unfortunately no one from the SAP area could be present in the meeting. One (important) element in the assessment is the integration of SAP LVM with the chosen solution – since we want to use the automation capabilities of LVM in the setup. Can you provide information on the LVM integration for the infrastructure stack in this case : - database compute layer = Oracle PCA (Oracle VM + Oracle Linux + Oracle Enterprise) intention is to use Oracle RAC and DataGuard to secure scalability and uptime demands from the customer - database storage layer will be EMC (VMax3) with fiber-channel connection ; we want to use our existing Enterprise storage solution to use existing knowledge and support channels - as mentioned : SAP LVM will be used for automation of operations; We want to understand the capabilities and constraints (if any) of the considered hardware/software combination. I am aware that Oracle PCA can also be used to host the SAP application layer but that is not in scope at the moment. Thanks in advance for any useful feedback, Frank

Oracle Software Owner - migration.
Hi Experts,
I tried to test Oracle database upgrade and I was stuck with one of the points – Migration Software Owner to ‘Oracle’. I want to migrate user before Oracle upgrade, according to the note 1915317 one of the points is changing Ownership Oracle home via few scripts.
Scripts have been generated, but I’m not sure if correct options are selected:
If I want to change Ownership I must start the script - ./clone_assistnat.sh and generate scripts. All variable have been set, scripts have been generated with the following options:
- Action CONFIG not CLONE
- ORACLE_HOME - /oracle/SID/11204
- ORACLE_BASE - /orace/SID
- Do you want to change the software Owner for this oracle home ? – I selected yes (new owner – Oracle)
Source Oracle home = not specified
Source Software Owner = not specified:not specified
Target Oracle home = /oracle/SID/11204
Target Software Owner = orasid:dba
will be changed to oracle:oinstall
Target Oracle home name = ohn
Target Oracle base = /oracle/SID
Target Oracle release = 11.2
Target OSDBA group = dba
Target OSOPER group = oper
Copy command = tar
Super user (root) = root
Default oraInst.loc = /etc/oraInst.loc
Inventory location = not specified
MY VARIABLE FOR USER ora<sid>:
ORACLE_HOME - /oracle/SID/112_64
ORACLE_BASE - /oracle
ORACLE_SID - SID
- What ORACLE_HOME should be set during the scripts generation ? - /oracle/SID/112_64 or /oracle/SID/11204 ?
- ORACLE_BASE shoud be default /oracle/SID or as is defined in variable - /oracle
- Shall I chose yes during the - Do you want to change the software Owner for this oracle home and put new oracle owner and oracle group name ?
Thanks and Regards,
Tomasz

Reduce the number of generated archive logs (Increase their sizes?)
In order to decrease the number of archive logs and increase the size of it. I tried researching it and read the sdn and notes. Didn't find much information. Does Oracle allows to increase the archive log size or there are other things involved in it. Are there any good oss note about it. We get about 3000 oracle archive logs per week. Our goal is to reduce the archive logs (increase their sizes?). Is it possible if it is can please some one tell me the oss note or recommend me their analysis please

Oracle RAC v/s Oracle DB
Hi All, In my landscape some systems has oracle RAC and some has Oracle as the database for SAP landscape. What is the major difference and or advantages of having and Oracle RAC..considering clustering feature is available with OS host level as well. Would also like to know who do I know from OS, DB as well as SAP level(using transaction DB02) to know whether DB is oracle or Oracle RAC. I checked blogs but no clear answers I found so far. Please help. Regards, Vicky

Error while installing Oracle 12c software on AIX 7.1
Hi experts,
We are in the process of installing Oracle 12c software in order to perform an upgrade from 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2 before upgrading our system from SAP NTW 7.4 to SAP NTW 7.5.
The installation process stops with the following error in the link binaries phase: Error invoking target 'rat_on part_on dm_on olap_on sdo_on rac_off dnfs_off' of makefile '/oracle/<SID>/12102/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms´'.
In addition to the above described issue, while performing troubleshooting, the installation session was unexpectedly ended because to a power problem in our building. According to note 1915301, under common errors section, if the installation directory is no empty the software has to be uninstalled before re-run a new installation.
However the desinstall option fails: “ERROR: oracle/net/common/NetGetEnv.get(Ljava/lang/String;)”. No software is deleted from oracle home /oracle/<SID>/12102 and off course the re installation process failed with message “The selected Oracle Home contains directories or files”.
We’ve tried to desintall software following these three different approaches:
According to note 1915301: ./RUNINSTALLER –deinstall –home /oracle/<SID>/12102
According to note 1915314: ./runInstaller –deinstall –home /oracle/<SID>/12102
Also tried with the desintall utiliy outside the OUI: /oracle/<SID>/12102/desinstall/
Could you please help me in resuming the software installation? It is possible to simply remove current oracle home (/oracle/<SID>/12102) and reinstall software installation from scratch? I was considering rename current oracle home (/oracle/<SID>/12102 as (/oracle/<SID>/12102_BCKP), take a backup of the oraInventory and restart the software installation. Do you see any constraint in doing that?
Sorry for reporting two different incidents in the same discussion, but they are linked. I cannot move forward with troubleshooting of the first reported error without solving re installation problem.
• Current oracle release: 11.2.0.4
• OS Version: AIX 7100-03-04-1441
• Runinstaller version: 12.1.0.2.0 (059)
• Oracle Software Owner: ora<sid>
Please let us know if some extra data is required.
Thanks in advance
RMAN backup reporting not working after Oracle 12c Upgrade
Hi All,
We have recently upgraded our Netweaver 7.4 system to Oracle 12c version.
We are still using SAP classic approach for Oracle database user and softwares, datfiles are owned by orasid.
Since after the upgrade our RMAN backup reporting is not working, Our backup reporting tool use "oracle" OS user to connect to database and provide us backup status but since after the upgrade this user is facing issue while connecting to database.
This tool uses (sqlplus / ) command to connect to database -
>sqlplus /
SQL*Plus: Release 12.1.0.2.0 Production on Thu Feb 25 11:12:05 2016
Copyright (c) 1982, 2014, Oracle. All rights reserved.
ERROR:
ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
(sqlplus / as sysdba) is working with oracle user and it is able to connect but (sqlplus / ) is not working.
With sidadm and orasid, (sqlplus / ) is working.
We have OPS$ORACLE user also existing at database level and tried with setting SSFS environment variables with Oracle user but still same issue.
I know Oracle has introduced "oracle" OS user also with 12c for SAP installation, Not sure if somehow that concept is creating issue with our already existing oracle os user which we use only for RMAN backup reporting.
Please suggest what could be reason of this issue,
Regards,
Shivam
DB13 - BR1804E SAPPROF dir not supported if spfile is not used
Hi,
Trying to run DB13 checks, stats, etc, but we are running into the following error:
BR0801I BRCONNECT 7.20 (24)

BR0301E SQL error -12162 at location db_connect-2, SQL statement: 'CONNECT /'
ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified
BR0310E Connect to database instance failed
BRTOOLS version 7.20 patch 24. We are ASM. So we are using our spfile on ASM, which is why it's strange it's complaining about the SAPPROF.
We are able to run brtool db checks directly on the database. Checked brtools permissions, oracle permissions (OPS$ORACLE) are ok, etc and everything looks fine. the SAPPROF directory contains the brtools profile and empty oracle profile. Reviewed SAP note 1598594 and we have this working on other systems, so we're not sure what the issue is. Other than this, the system is up and running fine. Any ideas?

"JDBC driver not supported" after inst. of 12 client
Hi Experts,
I upgraded my NW 7.3 system from ORACLE 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2. After the
ORACLEupgrade, we are facing the following situation:
The J2EE system starts with ORACLE client 11.2.0.4 correctly. After
changing the ORACLE client to 12.1.0.2 we are getting the following
error in the bootstrap phase:
“JDBC driver not supported for ORACLE database”

Note 1914631 – “Central Technical Note for Oracle Database 12c Release
1(12.1)” quotes:
-----Start of quote of Note 1914631 -----
At the moment, for SAP products based on SAP NetWeaver 7.2x, 7.3x for
AS-JAVA and AS-ABAP+JAVA (Java Stack and Double Stack) the following
restrictions apply:
Oracle Instant Client version 11.2.0.4 is required for SAP
installations (SWPM) of such a product, for SAP upgrades to such a
product and also for SAP system copies/system migrations of such
products.
In order to run the SAP system with Oracle Instant Client version
12.1.0.2 you have to apply the SAP support packages from SAP note
1777021. These support packages enable the SAP system to use the Oracle
Instant Client 12.1.0.2.
-----End of quote of Note 1914631 -----
Note 1777021 – “J2EE: Introducing Support for Oracle 12” recommends the
following version of SERVERCORE in order to be able to handle ORACLE
12c:
J2EE ENGINE SERVERCORE 7.30 SP009 patch 000000
Version of component SERVERCORE of my system is:
1000.7.30.10.0.20130822221300
We are using Kernel 7.22 EXT
I installed the instantclient as recommended in note 819829 – “Oracle
Instant Client Installation and Configuration on Unix” (OCL12164.SAR)
The directory structure for client is (with links):
/oracle/client/
11x_64 -> /oracle/client/12x
12x/
instantclient -> instantclient_12102
instantclient_12102
The environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH of user xxxadm contains
/oracle/client/12x/instantclient.
After installation I executed the steps of note 867976 –“Changing JDBC
driver on WEB AS Java 6.40/NW 7.0x/7.1x” (by the way, this note is not
valid to NW 7.3 and above, support has to update this note):
- In secure store of the configtool the data under tab “Connection
Pool” is:
ClassName=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@deabisdbci:1522:XXX
- editor mode-> cluster_config-> system-> instance-> ID5272219->
Propertysheet instance_profile
DB_DRIVER_LOCATION=/oracle/client/12x/instantclient
- Changed the config.properties file under
/usr/sap/XXX/J52/j2ee/configtool/
rdbms.driverLocation=/oracle/client/12x/instantclient/ojdbc6.jar
Additionally, I changed the parameter j2ee/dbdriver in the instance
profile to /oracle/client/12x/instantclient/ojdbc6.jar.
In order to force the system to make a synchronization in bootstrap
phase
I set parameter element.resynch = FORCE in file
/usr/sap/XXX/J52/j2ee/cluster/bootstrap/ bootstrap.properties.

transaction executing for a long time in SM58
Hello All,
We have a situation in our PI system where LUW is in transaction executing for long time.
Destination is ECC system. Here i can see that DIA process 85 is executing something for this LUW. But it takes a long time to complete.
Checked smqr resource allocation...its OK.
Checked smqs to see if ECC<SID>_<CLIENT> is registered. It is registered.
Checked sm21...nothing relevant in the logs.
What should be chcked now.
It took almost 4 hours to completed. Please help me how to troubleshoot this.

Adding an OR operator?
I need to make a change to a report. Instead of a patient having only a diagnostic mammogram as an initial exam. I need to update this formula to diagnostic mammogram or US Breast as initial. What are your thoughts? Do I need to insert an 'OR' operator in there somewhere?
Thanks
Matt

BRCONNECT validate structure fails with ORA-01498 / BR0893E
Hey guys,
I've got a problem here. I hope, somebody can help me to find out what's wrong.
I have two oracle 12G databases on SLES 11. On both databases there are several (round about 30 on each DB) issues when brconnect validate structure is running.
That looks like this:
BR0280I BRCONNECT time stamp: 2016-02-29 11.29.25
BR0301E SQL error -1498 at location stats_tab_validate-2, SQL statement:
'ANALYZE TABLE "SAPSR3"."ATAB" VALIDATE STRUCTURE CASCADE ONLINE'
ORA-01498: block check failure - see trace file
BR0893E Validating structure failed for table/cluster SAPSR3.ATAB
I can't find any trace file in /oracle/<SID>/12102/rdbms/log. Is there any other location I can look into?
Also the alert-log is totally empty.
Can anyone give me a hint where I can find useful information about this issue?
Of course a solution would also be great
Thank you in advande for your comments.
