Changing Database Hostname for SAP systems

$

Hi,

For testing scenario for few upgrades, we have copied one of our actual development server and restored to another testing server.

Before restoring i have changed the ipaddress and hostname on testing server and the restored.

After Restoring i have changed all the sap profile parameters in the path (/usr/sap/SID/SYS/profile) and in the files "tnsnames.ora and listener.ora" and then started the SAP services, system started and connecting fine to SAP through saplogn pad.

But after logging to SAP system when i checked in System - Status - Database Data it not showing the right hostname (means its not showing the testing server hostname) its shows the hostname of development server from where i have copied the system.

Please let me know, How to change the database hostname in the system status tab at sap level.

Please suggest, waiting for your reply.

Best Regards

SAP Oracle Upgrade issue

Hello,

Im going through an oracle upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.3, I have already done the pre-upgrade tasks with no problems, however, I'm having a dump which says that I have a data block corrupted, should I try to go through dbua or it will give me an error in upgrade or post upgrade task?  I'd like to open an OSS message however as my database is still in 10G I'd probably not get too much support.

DBA_TAB_MODIFICATIONS not updated

Hi experts,

I would like to share with you a strange behavior I've noticed on a test system.

OS                   Win 2008R2 SP1

Oracle             11.2.0.3 PATCH 15

SAP                 ECC 6 Ehp (NW 731)

Brtools             7.20 (31)

I've noticed some wrong execution plans after client copy.

I did run an other copy this weekend and checked closely what was going on and it's not matching at all what I've read/learned.

Even if table monitoring is active the DBA_TAB_MODIFICATIONS has not been updated after the client copy (copy of production client on test system).

show parameter statistics

NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE

optimizer_use_pending_statistics     boolean     FALSE

statistics_level                     string      TYPICAL

timed_statistics                     boolean     TRUE

select monitoring, count(1) from dba_tables where owner = 'SAPSR3' group by monitoring;

Before copy:

select sum(INSERTS), sum(UPDATES),  sum(DELETES) from sys.dba_tab_modifications where TABLE_OWNER ='SAPSR3';

After copy:

select sum(INSERTS), sum(UPDATES),  sum(DELETES) from sys.dba_tab_modifications where TABLE_OWNER ='SAPSR3';

COUNT(1) SUM(INSERTS) SUM(UPDATES) SUM(DELETES)

   18030     71041559      5727108     63098779

I did check last time stat has been update on one of our largest table:

select 'dba_tables', to_char(LAST_ANALYZED, 'Dy DD-Mon-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') from dba_tables tbls where table_name ='FAGLFLEXA'

select 'dba_tab_statistics', to_char(LAST_ANALYZED, 'Dy DD-Mon-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') from dba_tab_statistics where table_name ='FAGLFLEXA';

dba_tab_statistics Mon 02-Sep-2013 01:37:07

dba_tables         Mon 02-Sep-2013 01:37:07

I checked the table number of rows

select num_rows from dba_tables where table_name ='FAGLFLEXA';

  NUM_ROWS

select count(1) from sapsr3.FAGLFLEXA;

But it is not ...

BR0879I Statistics checked for 1 table

BR0878I Number of tables selected to collect statistics after check: 0

BR0880I Statistics collected for 0/0 tables/indexes

The fact is that after the client copy some reports doing heavy DB access are performing very poorly and some unoptimized access path are selected.

There is always a possibility to force statistics updates for all tables...

brconnect -u / -c -f stats -t all -m +I -s P10 -f allsel,collect,method -p 12

... but  I would like to understand what's wrong with my understanding and/or my analysis...

Thanks for your help !

INITRANS questions

$
0
0

Hi all,

In our SAP databases we have 7 tables plus the indexes that have the INITRANS set to 100. Looks like this setting was update in order to avoid deadlocks and appliying the SAP note 84348.

We have tried to figured out why, how and when this setting was updated but we haven't have success. Can be done years ago and it is not documented in any place (Change management issue ).

The tables that have the INITRANS to 100 are "couriously" the biggest tables and the tables with the biggest growth trend, thing that makes a lot of sense because of this setting.

Two of the tables are MSEG and MKPF (material documents) and as per our application team, these tables should have any UPDATE process against. In addition in the Share Cursor Cache and DB statistics there isn't any update operation aginst these tables in the last months.

With these circumstances and In order to reduce the space after a very deep archive process we are thinking about to reorg the tables reducing the INITRANS to 1.

Here several questions and thoughts regarding this topic:

  • Does the INITRANS apply only for UPDATE operations? Im my eyes yes, but I'd like to confirm it.
  • If one table has the INITRANS to 100 during long time and after that you reorg the table reducing the INITRANS to 100, should the table size be reduced? this is my thought and please let me know if I'm wrong:

  if a table with 1000 blocks and INITRANS = 100  is reorganized and the INITRANS reduced to 1, will its size reduced in 207000? ((23bytes*100)*1000) - (23bytes *1000) = 207.000 bytes.
  • If the INITRANS is changed in a table without reorg and after sometime the table is reorg keepping the INITRANS, will its size increased because the INITRANS will be applied to all blocks?

Thanks in advanced.

Oracle_Home Directory does not exist

Dear ALL,.

Kindly clarify Query:

We are setting UP DR (Diaster Recovery).

Source has cluster where TARGET DR System does not have cluster.

During Target Installation in the "Database Software installation " phase, It did not allow us to Install the Oracle 11g version directly in TARGET DR System.

At that time it gave a pop up message " Oracle 11g Version  is not allowed without installing 10 g Oracle".  So we have installed Oracle 10g (10.0.1) version initially in Target DR System. Later we upgraded the Oracle software from 10.2-0.5 To 11.0.2 Version Of the Oracle Software.  Now Oracle version in Target DR System is 11.0.2 version.

Database is up in Target DR System after restore is completed.  We have taken the Offline backup using oracle 11g in Souce System.

After restore we continued the installation after exporting all the Variables such as Oracle_Home=/oracle/KBP/112_64 and then started with the remaining steps in Target installation i.e from Backup /Restore phase.Now in the Target installation ,the oracle path is /oracle/KBP/102_64 is taking instead of /oracle/KBP/112_64.

In the craetion of "Control Files phase" in the Target DR System , the installation is terminated with Error "Oracle HOME Directory does not Exist" because sapinst is taking the oracle_Home path = /oracle/KBP/102_64.

We have also set the correct Oracle Home path =/oracle/KBP/112_64 in all env files  ( /home/kbpadm and /home/orakbp)  in the Target DR System.

NOte:  SystemCopy installation using homogeneous backup /restore method.

OS:AIX

Oracle is database which is 11g

Kindly help us from where it is taking this oracle_home path =/oracle/KBP/102_64 . Now Oracle will not work in /oracle/KBP/102_64 .  We also made the database also up by setting the Oracle_Home=/oracle/KBP/112_64 only.

DB records getting irregular characters during data migration

Hello all,

I am getting some irregular characters in the testing system, these characters are actually Chinese characters in Dev, but in QAS  they are not shown as Chinese characters.

Could you give me some suggestions..what I need to check? what could be the possible reasons. As I am not an DB expert, hope to get your help.

Thanks

Danny

DB access is extremely slow after upgrading from R/3 to ECC

Hi all,

After upgrading from R/3 to ECC, severe performance issues have been found in the system, as an example, in ME23N enter  a PO number and hit enter, it then hanging and lasts for many hours without displaying any results. in SM50, I can see the long time sequential read on table EKET, EKBE.

The same issues are also seen in table COSS, KEKO...I suspect there is something happening on the Database since several tables are having the same issue. The issue is in testing system, in development system, there is no such issue, the performance is very good.

Can anybody give me some idea on this issue?

Thanks

We have BRtools archive log backup scheduled for every 4hrs on our Production system. We trigger the same using netbackup and files are backup to the tape and deleted from the disk immediately.

Our requirement is, even after the backup completion we have to retain the archive logs onto the disk for 3days and then delete?

Could you please adivise how this can be achieved ?

Many Thanks !!!

Migration off Raw Devices

We have a number of single instance SAP systems, all on Oracle 11203, AIX 7 using Raw Devices.

We see Raw Devices are not supported in Oracle 12c.

Does anyone have any opinion on whether to switch from Raw Devices to either Oracle ASM or AIX JFS2.

We are not planning on moving the databases to RAC.

Thanks.
