RMAN backup retention time

$

Dear experts,

we want to switch to BRBACKUP backups using RMAN. The backups will be saved on disk.

How can I please set the retention of the backups, so that backups (and archivelogs), let's say

older than 30 days will be automatically purged ?

Using normal BRBACKUP, I have managed this by setting cleanup_disk_backup = 30 and

cleanup_disk_archive = 30 and scheduling the Cleanup Logs job in DB13.

Now after switching to RMAN, old backups are not being purged.

I know that in RMAN it is possible to configure a recovery window (of let's say 30 days) and all the

backups, which are older, are being declared as expired. But even after that it is necessary to schedule

a "delete obsolete" job in oracle.

So, is that the correct way to go, or it is possible to make it with the Cleanup Logs job ? Or

using some other BRTOOLS trick ?

Many thanks!

How to safely remove parameter

$

Hello,

DB16 is warning me that my Oracle DB (version 10.2.0.4.0) has the following parameter set:

OPTIMIZER_FEATURES_ENABLE

Which, according to SAP note 830576 ("Parameter recommendations for Oracle 10g), shouldn't be set.

However, it has the value "10.2.0.1".

I've searched and found this thread, here at SCN:

Changing or Deleting Oracle DB Parameter Using BRTOOLS

This thread has the following instructions:

SQL> create pfile from spfile;

Edit the pfile according to your needs

and after this:

sql> shutdown immediate

sql> create spfile from pfile;

sql> startup

Also, there will be many parameter which will take default value if you do not set it.

Since I'm an Oracle newbie, I'm wondering:

1st) Where will the pfile be created?

2nd) How can I be sure that I don't have any problems related to the last sentence: "Also, there will be many parameter which will take default value if you do not set it."

thanks

Local Client Copy is taking long time

Dear All,

I wanted to make client copy on the same system between two clients from 420 to 410. The copy is running since 20 hours and not finish yet and it showed at the begginng error in two table DDIC but it continues and till now it didn't finish. I have checked sm50 and it's running and in scc3 it's processing and it's showing that it's processing one table. Is this normal? And can we open the source client to some users? What if it took more and more time shall we terminated and what is the effect of cancellation?

Thanks in advance

Database connections get dried up on SAP GRC

$

Hi,

I administer a SAP GRC system, running on Linux x86_64 with Oracle 11.2.0.2.0.
Sincer November 2012, we have the following problem:

The database connections get dried up. Meaning that the number of OS processes with LOCAL=NO is increasing until in reaches the maximum allowed connections and as the connections are not closed, the system hangs. At this point we restart the system and all the connections get released.

This issue occured at first once every two weeks. But for more than a month now, once the system is restarted, the number of connections increases immediately without being released and we need to restart the system again and again every 2 or 3 days in order to release connections and get a functional system at least for a while.

At first, we increased the parameter "processes" from 150 to 300. And Max Connections also to 300. Even though we increase the number of processes and sessions, they still get dried up after a while; so it just delays a bit the inevitable.

We opened a sap call at GRC category, and so far, it does not seem to be a problem related to the GRC application side. They haven't figured anything wrong.

From the database perspective we tried switching from dedicated server processes to shared server processes. But this resulted in a similar issue. Even though there are no more LOCAL=NO processes, after a while, the system gives a timeout when we try to log in and a restart is again needed.

Have you ever encountered a similiar issue, or do you have any suggestions what else to try?

Thank you,
Delia

BR0069E File name %file% not unique - backup/verification not possible

$

Hello gurus,

I have 2 datafiles with similar names in DB, so in backup processing I get an error message BR0069E File name %file% not unique - backup/verification not possible.

I have tried recommendation from note 17163 - BRARCHIVE/BRBACKUP messages and codes,

BR0069E File name %s not unique - backup/verification impossible.

BR0069E Dateiname %s nicht eindeutig - Sicherung/Verifikation unmoeglich.

Explanation:  Because the file name is not unique, files in the backup directory could be overwritten (during a backup to disk).

Program reaction:  The BRBACKUP run is terminated.

User action:  Stop the database. Rename the file at operating system level. Use the SYRMGR commands to rename the file on the database.

connect internal

shutdown immediate

startup mount

alter database rename file '<file name>' to '<file name>';

alter database open;

Then restart BRBACKUP.

but when SAP started I got non-consistency data.

How can I solve this problem?

Perhaps I need to use "alter database rename datafile '<file name>' to '<file name>';"?

Thank you in advance,

Max

May I know where to get the RDBMS Client Oracle 11.2

Hi,

I am trying to set up a SAP ERP 6.0 EHP7 environment on my local VMWare.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Oracle Database 11g Release 2
  • SOFTWARE PROVISIONING MGR 1.0
  • 51049350_10_SAP Kernel 742_SAP NETWEAVER 7.4 SR2
  • 51048312_1_EHP7 FOR SAP ERP 6.0_IDES
  • 51048312_2_EHP7 FOR SAP ERP 6.0_IDES

Oracle Instant Clients are used in SAP installations certified with Oracle database releases 10.2 or 11.2.

So, The problem is that, during the SAPinst installation, RDBMS Client Oracle 11.2 is mandatory to load. However I found that recently SAP download center doesn’t provide any Oracle software packages any longer. Now I get stuck there, where I can download it? or is there any way I can skip this step?

I tried to download the client directly from Oracle, but that client doesn’t contain the identification file LABEL.ASC.

May I know where to get the RDBMS Client Oracle 11.2

cannot logon to SAP system after changing parameter

Hi,

I cannot login to SAP system after changing and reverting parameter COMPATIBLE.

History of events:

1. I checked DB16 and the COMPATIBLE parameter was on error:

Value: 10.2.0.3.0 (<> 10.2.0) # Database compatibility mode

2. I tried to change the parameter to the recommended value on SAP note 830576:

ALTER SYSTEM SET COMPATIBLE = '10.2.0' SCOPE=SPFILE;

3. When trying to restart the database I had an error message

2014-12-26_12-47-47.jpg

so I reverted the parameter to the previous setting with:

ALTER SYSTEM SET COMPATIBLE = '10.2.0.3.0' SCOPE=SPFILE;

4. SAP was started and everything is green:

5. But, when trying to logon, I get an error message when trying to open the logon screen

Please let me know how to solve this.

CI+DB@vmware_server1 vs CI@vmware_server1+DB@vmware_server2

Hello Friends,

We are having an ECC system running with 8 application servers (linux@vmware) and CI+DB on physical server (oracle+linux@hp). It is an intensive system with 5000 concurrent users.

We are planning to move the CI+DB to vmware and we would like to get your opinion, based on you experience and knowledge, whether to isolate the DB from the CI (DB standalone using two diffrent servers) or maybe leave both together CI+DB same as it is today on one single server.

We are most concern of performance!!!

I appreciate your time and inputs on this or any document which clearly explains pros & cons of both.

Thanks,

Monti
