Hi All,

We checked and found that We have one table APQD in our ECC 6.0 system which is taking 39.54 GB space.

I am trying to find out which type of data is stored in this table and ways by which we can reduce its size.

Please suggest me ways by which we can reduce of this table and which type of data is stored in the table.

Shivam Mittal

Function setreuid() failed at location BrEnvProcess-111 / brtools

Dear All

We upgraded recently the Oracle Grid Infrastructure to 12.1.0.2 and to Linux 6 (Exadata).

The databases are still on 11.2.0.4.

Afterwards the call of brtools like brspace, brconnect, etc. fails.

An example:

brspace -u / -f dbshow

BR1001I BRSPACE 7.40 (16)

BR0251E Function setreuid() failed at location BrEnvProcess-111

BR0253E errno 11: Resource temporarily unavailable

BR0700E Fatal errors occurred - terminating processing...

BR1008I End of BRSPACE processing: serhyvat.log 2015-09-03 13:56:07

BR0280I BRSPACE time stamp: 2015-09-03 13:56:07

BR1007I BRSPACE terminated with errors

Although the output says the output is written to a .log file, there is no file.

After upgrading to GI 12.1.0.2 we used first brtools 7.20 (40). As we thought the old version could be the issue we upgraded then to 7.40 (16). The error is the same for 7.20 (40) as for 7.40 (16).

I couldn't find any matching document regarding 'setreuid' and 'errno 11:'.

Did someone had the same issue?

A step missed on the upgrade?

Linux configuration missing?

fabian

I need an advice about BRBACKUP

$

Dear Experts,

I am trying to configure a simple BRBACKUP using RMAN to local disk (for test purposes) and nothing more.

And here the opinions are splitting:

According to:

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/a8910c3a-0d01-0010-a6a9-f4a8aae140fe?overridelayout=t…

this should be possible:

RMAN Full Backup at Level 0 to Disk

A full backup with RMAN and without the backup library can be made to a local disk only.

But on the other side, according to:

RMAN-Relevant Profile Parameters - SAP Database Guide: Oracle (BC-DB-ORA-DBA) - SAP Library

RMAN Backups Without Backup Library

For normal backups to disk with RMAN, you need to make the following entries in the initialization file init<DBSID>.sap or the corresponding command options:

· backup_dev_type = disk

· disk_copy_cmd = rman

Here I don't fully agree with the last statement, because I have been trying this configuration. It basically uses the rman

binary in order to just copy the files to the backup location, instead using cp, it is not the full-featured rman backup taken

at DB block level (where also the dynamic block change tracking comes into play) and also no verification takes place.

I have configured a device type disk in RMAN and when I run RMAN> backup database;

this works and takes the backup as it should, but when I run brbackup, it somehow looks for an SBT_TAPE device,

which of course I don't have.

Here I need to say, that I have specified backup_dev_type = rman_disk (which I know, is the full-featured rman backup)

Can please somebody enlighten me on how to configure brbackup, so that it would look for the device type disk and not

SBT_TAPE ? I have been checking all the rman_ options, but none of them seems to do the trick.

Many thanks in advance!

SAP Database performance - API's

Hi,

Does SAP provides any API's to get the SAP DB performance counters? For example: Transaction code : ST04 gives database monitoring performance information, such as physical(/logical) reads, writes, busy waits etc. I would like to get this information through API's.

Can you please suggest on how do I retrieve the SAP Database performance metrics.

Thanks,

Mahesh

Oracle Processes and Sessions

$

0

Hi hopefully this is an easy question to answer

I have noticed that the parameters Processes and Sessions are set too low on our ECC6 system. However i am not sure by how much.

I know the values should be worked out by the following

PROCESSES

(#ABAP work processes * 2) +

(#J2EE server processes * <max-connections> ) +

PARALLEL_MAX_SERVERS + 40

SESSIONS = 2 * PROCESSES

Our system is ABAP only so i dont need to count the J2ee section. However for the ABAP work processes, what i am confused about is if this should be just the central instance's work processes or should include the additional work processes from the application server connected to it?

e.g. i have a central instance with the DB on which has 21 WPs and an app server connected to it with 14 WPs. So should the first calculation be (21*2) or ((21+14)*2)

Can someone confirm?

DB import - failing packages on unicode conversion

Dear experts,

I am finally doing the import of the unicode system and I am facing a problem with 2 failing packages.

They are nametab tables. Here is the error from the log file:

eof: #20150724092732

It doesn't contain an entry for table DDXTT, but for table DDXTT_1B !!! Does anyone have a clue

what is going on? I have checked on other systems and table DDXTT_1B is not existing, and table

DDXTT is completely empty.

I have also exactly the same problem for table DDXTT_CONV_UC, in the corresponding TOC file

it is listed as:

tab: DDXTT_2B

eot: #0 rows 20150724112153

I thought of a bug in R3load, but I am using kernel 7.21 EXT patch 402 and R3load patch 419.

I only found SAP notes about trouble with earlier kernel patches, like note 1905316 for example

which mentions patch 134 of this kernel.

Also, when I was generating the unicode nametabs in the non-unicode system, it went all fine

and there were no errors...

So what to do now ? I can think of two possible solutions, except for repeating the export:

1) Modify the .TSK file and set the line D DDXTT I err to status ok. I think this should be OK, as

the table is empty anyway.

2) Modify the .TOC file and change DDXTT_1B to DDXTT, as table DDXTT_1B is not existing.

PLEASE kindly help me to sort out this issue! Many thanks in advance!

Oracle Tablespace details. Pre and Post upgrade.

Dear Experts,

For SAP NW 730 upgrade to NW 731, I am working in planning phase.

Here I need to gather the requirement from Oracle DB perspective which is running on 11.2. SBP version too will be provided if required.

I have already gone through the upgrade Master guide and Stack specific SUM tool guide.

Also i have covered the note 1805195 - Handling and troubleshooting of tablespaces during Upgrades, EhPs and SPs updates, which SAP says is release independent.

I am highly doubtful with the TS name changes after upgrade, as per the note mentioned above. As, i have never seen any TS  with name PSAP<SID>X. Also it speaks in length about the issues encountered during that stage due to inconsistencies with TBTCO tables.

Since as per the upgrade guide, these issues will be encountered at DB cloning stage only, I would request have the right information handy with me to avoid any delay at the time of upgrade.

Please provide your understanding on how DB cloning can be optimized and how to avoid known issues with TS modification in downtime.

Thanks

Abhijeet

SAP Backup on EMC Datadomain

Hi all,

we're doing SAP backups via Brtools + EMC's DataBoost technology for serveral weeks - this scenario works pretty well for taking backups but

we're facing a problem in connection with retention period. Where do you guys configure it? Assuming the parameters resides

in the  *.sap files (default: 30 days) seemed to be wrong as we tried to recover a backup that was older than 20 days thus the question, where do we configure the retention period for backups using BRTOOLS and EMC DataBoost technology?

Thanks in advance,

Rafael

Oracle reclaim waste space : Index fragmentation

$

Hi ,

got a doubt, hope it can be clarified.

when we check top growth tables in DB02, we noticed the below facts.

1. when tables grow and shrink due to DML operations, waste space is increasing in tables.

2. and indexes are getting fragmented too.

so, my queries are :

1. will oracle reclaim/reuse waste space ?

2. is it recommended to re-org tables regularly ?

3. is it recommended to rebuild indexes too ?

is there any standard documentation in any KBA etc?

Thanks !!!
