Dear Expert,

In oracle10g, we find trace files under below directory->

/oracle/<SID>/saptrace/usertrace

but in oracle11g

/oracle/<SID>/saptrace/diag/rdbms/qas/<SID>/trace. Although usertrace folder is present in oracle11g-> /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/usertrace..

In oracle10g, there is no such path exist /oracle/<SID>/saptrace/diag/rdbms/qas/<SID>/trace

Pls let me know  what's the difference between both these trace folder in oracle11g

Application process are not killeg after DB crash

Hi all,

We have Oracle 11g RAC with 3 DB nodes and 4 SAP Application servers. One node crashed due to network issue. The sessions are then relocated to other node due to high availability of oracle. After the node came up. We can see many application sessions which were running on the node. It is not automatically killed. I went through alert log of SAP instances. But still no luck. Kindly suggest on it.

TST03 LOB Segment grows a lot after billing process

$

Hello,

I have a question about LOB Segment corresponding to TST03 (field DCONTENT). TST03 is a table from TEMSE.

We are using ECC 6.0 / NW 7.01.

After a billing process job which creates arround 5 spool requests with arround 19.100 pages without graphics nor logos, I noticed that DB size growed arround 16 Gb the first time.

I used DB02 to detect the grow cause and it was due to the LOB Segment corresponding to field TST03-DCONTENT.

Using SP12 (menu TEMSE -> MEMORY ALLOCATION) I noticed that the TEMSE grow was due to these spool requests we generated.

I read SAP note [500340 - FAQ: LOBS|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=745639] and detected that this LOB Segment had RETENTION attribute activated.

We deleted the spool requests with SP01 transaction (or report RSPO1041) and run again the billing process. Then de LOB Segment growed again arround 16 Gb (now with a total size of arround 32 Gb). I understood again the meaning of RETENTION property explained in that SAP note.

Then I decided to activate property PCTVERSION instead of RETENTION. I set PCTVERSION to 1 (1% of allocated space for this LOB Segment is now reserved for storing before images). In this case (32 Gb size) arround 320 Mb is reserved.

We deleted again the last spool requests and run once more time the billing process. I supposed that this LOB, with 32 Gb reserved would not grow now again, as it had 320 Mb reserved for undo management and the rest to 32 Gb with free blocks.

But we detected that this LOB Segment growed again to 43.530 Mb.

We deleted again the spool requests and run again the billing process (always is the same billing process). Now the LOB segment growed 320 Mb, to a total size of 43.850 Mb. This is normal if we suppose that the billing process spool requests  need these 43.530 Mb more or less. As the LOB Segment had 435 Mb reserved for undo (1% of 43.530 Mb), it needed to increase its size that quantity more or less.

I have 2 questions:

- Is this LOB Segment behavour correct according to its PCTVERSION=1 property activated (instead of RETENTION)?

- Is it normal that about 19.100 billing pages (without images nor logos) in 5 spool requests used 43.850 Mb in LOB Segment corresponding to table TST03? This is an average of arround 2,2 Mb/page.

I think I do not understand something about LOB Segments.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance and best regards.

Question on BRRESTORE with RMAN...

$
0
0

Dear experts,

we are moving towards integrating RMAN in BRBACKUP for all the systems in our environment.

We have also decided to take Full (level 0) backups twice per week and cumulative backups

each evening.

I would like to ask on 2 details in case I would need to restore such a cumulative backup:

I. How is the restore exactly done ? This is how I currently picture it for myself:

1. The full backup would need to be restored first.

2. Apply the offline redologs that were generated during this full level 0 backup

3. Then restore the last available cumulative backup

4. In the end, apply the offline redollogs generated during this cumulative backup

Or perhaps step 2. is not necessary ?

II. I have come across the following document:

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/a8910c3a-0d01-0010-a6a9-f4a8aae140fe?overridelayout=t…

I am a bit confused by the following statement on page 6:

In contrast to the BRRESTORE restore process without RMAN, which requires a closed database, restoring with RMAN requires the database to be mounted

What exactly does that mean ? Do I imagine the restore process wrongly, as I depicted it in I. ??? Kindly advise and let me know

in a clear and understandable form, not in the common fuzzy SAP language :-) Many thanks in advance!

Test restore

Hi,

I'm going to perform test restore on productive server. The only thing I want to check is to verify if some files are restoreable. I need to restore one of datafile. Of course I wouldn't like to make restored file working as a part of database. I would like to restore it to another location on the same server.

How can I perform it in BRRESTORE tool.

Thanks in advance,

How to resize the PSAPTEMP

$

Dear expert,

I extended the PSAPTEMP from 30G to 120G (autoextended switch on by alter temfile) due to rebuild big indexes

Now the operation is finished , and i would like to resize it back to 30G

ALTER TABLESPACE PSAPTEMP ADD TEMPFILE '/oracle/QAT/temp.data2' SIZE 30720M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240  MAXSIZE 30720M;

ALTER TABLESPACE PSAPTEMP ADD TEMPFILE '/oracle/QAT/temp.data3' SIZE 30720M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240  MAXSIZE 30720M;

ALTER TABLESPACE PSAPTEMP ADD TEMPFILE '/oracle/QAT/temp.data4' SIZE 30720M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON NEXT 10240  MAXSIZE 30720M;

I need to resize it or i need to drop the 3 added tempfile?

Could you share me the command?

Just one more question: there is for table OLTP compression, it will not ues the tempfile right?

Thank you!

Kate

Collecting statistics for large table : stats_dbms_stats parallelism not taken into account

$
0
0

Hello,

We are running SAP ECC6, on Oracle 11.2.0.4.0, HP-UX 11.31

Our Production Database (5 TB) consists of some large tables , which size is more than 200 GB ; GLPCA,RESB, ...

We are scheduling the update of the statistics every morning at 06:00 though transaction DB13,

The Oracle Statistics are being processed in parallel :

stats_parallel_degree = 8 , which means that basically up to 8 tables/indexes are being processed at the same time, but

one single thread processes each table. For the sake of simplicity, I call it "external parallelism"

It means that when the statistics of some large tables are obsoletes , and are automatically recalculated, it takes some significant amount of time, more than 15 hours for the DB13 jobs to be processed.

For all those reasons, I am trying to implement the "internal parallelism" , through the dbms_stats package, in order to configure several threads for the largest tables, as explained in details in the following sap note :

424239 - New BRCONNECT parameter: stats_dbms_stats

408532 - Using the DBMS_STATS package for collecting statistics

914174 - Minor functional enhancements in BR*Tools (1)

I spent the two past days , doing some tests on our QAS database (much smaller size), trying to update in parallel the statistics of table GLPCA, through several threads, but it does not work. I am probably missing something, but I can not figure out what

I tried all kinds of combination for the following parameter :

stats_dbms_stats          ALL:R:1,GLPCA:R:3
stats_dbms_stats          ALL:R:0,GLPCA:R:3
stats_dbms_stats          ALL:R:2,GLPCA:R:3

But still, the table GLPCA keeps being processed by one unique thread, and not three threads as expected.

I am joining the DB24 log, maybe someone can help me pinpoint what I am missing :

As you can see, 4 threads are started in parallel because of the parameter

stats_parallel_degree     4

But one single threads is then assigned to table GLPCA, I was expecting three threads

Thank you for your attention
