Hello,

Has anyone done migration to Exadata using SAPINST..? We are trying to import database to Exadata using SAPINST'S Database instance option of distributed system copy and we are facing issue while Database is being created in Exadata/ASM.

We have prepared both the nodes and now we are trying to import our Database using R3load method. In the phase DATABASE CREATION, we are

facing issues with control file creation in the ASM disk group. It gives Error message: "ORA-01501: CREATE DATABASE failed ORA-00200: control

file could not be created ORA-00202: control file:'+DATA_MCFL/mps/cntrlmps.dbf' ORA-17502: ksfdcre:3 Failed to create file+DATA_MCFL/mps/cntrlmps.dbf ORA-15001: diskgroup "DATA_MCFL" does not exist or is not mounted ORA-15204: database version 11.2.0.0.0 is incompatible with diskgroup DATA_MCFL Disconnected from Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production With the Partitioning, Real Application Clusters, Automatic Storage Management,OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options . SOLUTION: Formore information, see ora_sql_results.log and the Oracle documentation.)."

we have checked our ASM disk group compatibility and it has been set to

11.2.0.2.0 ,We referred Oracle note ID no. 1468931.1 and tried to check the

compatible parameter in the init<SID>.ora file and also checked the

templates .dbt and .dbca files. We tried to change the compatibility to

11.2.0.2 and re-tried, but it did not help.

Kindly help us in resolving the issue.

BR0312-Database instance shutdown during online backup

$

Hello,

I am using Oracle 11g with SAP NW 7.31 and last few days, I have a strange problem during backup via DB13. The backup ends with "BR0312 - database instance shutdown during online backup". I have checked in alert log file, but there is no information regarding this issue and the database actually was available during the error reported time.

I found OSS note "2031239 - BR0312E database instance <DBSID> shutdown during online backup", but it is not relevant in this case. Apart from this, to be sure, I have checked for any data file is "ACTIVE" by using SQL command "select * from v$backup". Sometime, the backup gets completed upto some percentage (for example 25%), then it fails with the same error message. It happens only with online backup, rest all DBA jobs are working fine.

While the database is up and running, I don't understand what lets BRtools confused with instance shutdown.

Screenshot of error log.

Could anyone please suggest how to trace for the root cause as I tried but unable to locate it exactly.

Thanks in advance for your valuable reply.

Restore Oracle DB Backup on RAC with ASM on Standalone server

$

Dear Experts,

We have our Production Enviornment on Linux as OS and Oracle DB on RAC and ASM. We are taking the backup through DB13 of Production system.

We want to rectify whether the above backup is restorable or not. For this, we want to restore the backup on Single Standalone system without RAC and ASM.

My questions is 1) Is it possible to restore database from RAC and ASM to normal Standalone server ?

                         2) If possible, can anyone let me know the challenges we could face during the same procedure.

Looking forward for suggestions.

Restore DB13 Oracle backup of RAC+ASM to Standalone server with ASM only

Dear Experts,

My SAP ECC System is on Oracle 11g with RAC on ASM. I am taking the backup using DB13 with init<SID>.sap profile as attached.

I want to restore this backup on single node System with only ASM(no RAC). (ASM File system structure remains the same)

As per my finding and as per Note 1627541 - BR*Tools support for Oracle ASM and Exadata/ODA, it says use only BRRECOVER to restore the database.

Can anyone please assist me, in restoring the database. As in step by step commands or points to follow the restore.

Thanks,

KK

DB13 backup of Oracle on RAC and ASM

Dear Experts,

My ECC Landscape is on Oracle RAC with ASM. I have configured my DB13 backup successfully.

Now as I monitor in DBACOCKPIT the used space is 90GB but when I take the FULL ONLINE BACKUP I get the size of 239 GB. Due to this, we have space constraint at our.

Is this normal, or whether DB13 is backing up data from both ASM Nodes (i.e. +ASM1 and +ASM2 duplication of data). Kindly advise the same.

Multiple SAP Databases in RAC

$

Hi everyone,

I am currently exploring SAP Oracle RAC for HA and am wondering if its possible to install multiple SAP Oracle databases into the same RAC cluster?

For example if we had ERP, BW, CRM, SCM ..etc.., is it possible/recommended/supported to migrate their various stand-alone Oracle databases into the same RAC cluster, or should they be migrated into their own RAC clusters?  eg a separate RAC for ERP, RAC for BW, RAC for CRM ..etc.. ??

Pros/cons/challenges ...

We are running SAP/Oracle on AIX (Power) so I have no concerns regarding vertical scalability at this stage.

Oracle Backupsets and Datafiles in Flash Recovery Area

$

0

Hi everybody.

Still green on SAP & Oracle so be patient.

Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition 11.2.0.3.0 running on RHES 6.3 x86_64.

We perform regular, online backups using RMAN with the following scripts:

## full backup - every 2 weeks ##

RUN

{

CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;

RECOVER COPY OF DATABASE

   WITH TAG 'EMT_MMFG_backup'

   UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE - 30';

BACKUP

   INCREMENTAL LEVEL = 0

   DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG

   TAG = 'EMT_MMFG_backup';

sql 'alter system archive log current';

sql "CREATE PFILE=''/oracle/EMT/oraflash/backups/EMT.ora'' FROM SPFILE";

copy current controlfile to '/oracle/EMT/oraflash/backups/EMT_control.ctl';

}

## incremental backup - every day ##

RUN

{

CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;

RECOVER COPY OF DATABASE

   WITH TAG 'EMT_MMFG_backup'

   UNTIL TIME 'SYSDATE - 30';

BACKUP

   INCREMENTAL LEVEL = 1

   FOR RECOVER OF COPY WITH TAG 'EMT_MMFG_backup'

   DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;

sql 'alter system archive log current';

sql "CREATE PFILE=''/oracle/EMT/oraflash/backups/EMT.ora'' FROM SPFILE";

copy current controlfile to '/oracle/EMT/oraflash/backups/EMT_control.ctl';

}

RMAN's retention policy is set to "CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 7 DAYS".

On our ERP/TEST system we noticed the following behaviour, starting with a clean, empty Flash Recovery Area (located in a separate filesystem):

1) on day one, we performed a full backup

According to a query performed against Oracle, approx 417GB of data was written to the Flash Recovery Area and this was confirmed by an inspection of the area itself:

# du -csh *

131M        autobackup

409G        backupset

4.0K        datafile

2.8G        flashback

4.0K        onlinelog

412G        total

Please notice the backupset which is as large as the DB itself (well, a bit less mainly due to the compression alghoritm being used); the datafile folder is empty.

2) on day two, we performed an incremental backup

According to the query, only 260MB of data was written into the FRA but disk usage changed dramatically:

# du -csh *

261M        autobackup

410G        backupset

549G        datafile

2.8G        flashback

4.0K        onlinelog

962G        total

As you can see, the backupset folder did change a little bit whereas the datafile folder (which was empty after the full backup) got to 549GB in size!

3) on the following days, incremental backup operations did not change the scenario much and still backupset and datafile folders were populated.

When approaching the full backup, we ran out of Flash Recovery Area space and we had to reduce the retention to (eg) 3 days before removing obsolete backupsets (RMAN> DELETE FORCE OBSOLETE;).

After executing the above command, we noticed that the datafiles folders was still at 549GB whereas the backupset one was reduced to 30GB.

My question is: is it normal to have both backupset and datafile folders with such a large amount of data?

I have to admin the size of the EMT Test db is quite large (2/3 times the size of our productive environment, mainly due to a number of client copies executed against it), about 550GB (the size of the datafile folder) and that this behaviour seems to be the same on other TEST/PROD environment but, again, I'd like to know more about RMAN's space allocation policy for the Flash Recovery Area.

Thanks,

Rob

reorg'ed table, no change in wasted space

Hi,

I need to reorg a table because it is a top in wasted space:

SELECT * FROM

(SELECT

    SUBSTR(TABLE_NAME, 1, 21) TABLE_NAME,

    NUM_ROWS,

    AVG_ROW_LEN ROWLEN,

    BLOCKS,

    ROUND((AVG_ROW_LEN + 1) * NUM_ROWS / 1000000, 0) NET_MB,

    ROUND(BLOCKS * (8000 - 23 * INI_TRANS) *

      (1 - PCT_FREE / 100) / 1000000, 0) GROSS_MB,

    ROUND((BLOCKS * (8000 - 23 * INI_TRANS) * (1 - PCT_FREE / 100) -

      (AVG_ROW_LEN + 1) * NUM_ROWS) / 1000000) "WASTED_MB"

  FROM DBA_TABLES

  WHERE

    NUM_ROWS IS NOT NULL AND

    OWNER LIKE 'SAP%' AND

    PARTITIONED = 'NO' AND

    (IOT_TYPE != 'IOT' OR IOT_TYPE IS NULL)

  ORDER BY 7 DESC)

WHERE ROWNUM <=50;

TABLE_NAME                                                        NUM_ROWS     ROWLEN     BLOCKS     NET_MB   GROSS_MB  WASTED_MB

---------------------------------------------------------------                            ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ----------

EDI40                                                                              63643300       3904   61161993     248527     439100          190573

I reorged this table to another tablespace with brspace, then reorged it back to PSAPSR3, and the WASTED_MB in this query stayed exactly the same.

I did some reading and it seems that the reason is that this table contains a BLOB:

SQL> desc sapsr3.EDI40;

Name Null?    Type

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- --------------------------------------------------------

MANDT NOT NULL VARCHAR2(9)

DOCNUM NOT NULL VARCHAR2(48)

COUNTER NOT NULL VARCHAR2(9)

PAGENO NOT NULL NUMBER(5)

TIMESTMP NOT NULL VARCHAR2(138)

PAGELG NOT NULL NUMBER(5)

VARDATA BLOB

The CLOB column size of this table is 350 GB:

SQL> select

  2 l.segment_name,

  3 l.column_name,

  sl.segment_type,

  4 5    sl.bytes as gig

from

  dba_lobs l,

  6 7    8    dba_segments sl

  9  where

10    l.owner = 'SAPSR3' and

11 l.table_name = 'EDI40' and

12 sl.owner=l.owner and

13 sl.segment_name in (l.segment_name, l.index_name)

14  union (

15  select

16 segment_name,

17    null,

18 segment_type,

19 sum(bytes)/(1024*1024) GIG

20  from

21 dba_segments

where

  owner = 'SAPSR3' and

  segment_name = 'EDI40' and

22   23 24   25    segment_type in ('TABLE','TABLE PARTITION')

26  group by

27 segment_name,

  segment_type

);

28   29

SEGMENT_NAME COLUMN_NAME SEGMENT_TYPE GIG

------------------------------ --------------- ------------------ ----------

EDI40                                                        TABLE     348998

SYS_LOB0000368442C00007$$ VARDATA LOBINDEX 65536

SYS_LOB0000368442C00007$$ VARDATA LOBSEGMENT 131072

Refer to SAP note 646681 and in particular, the section regarding reorganization of tables with LONG fields. In short, you must [STOP SAP]; then 1) generate the ddl for these tables, 2) export their contents to a file, 3)drop them, 4)re-create them with the ddl statements, 6) import the data back into them, 7) re-create their indexes and 8) check their statistics.

Is the process the same for BLOB? To reclaim the wasted space in this table, is this what is needed to be done?

Thanks,

Willem

ORA-28000 w/ schema owner acct

Hi folks - we have a situation where the schema owner oracle account (SAPSR3) is getting locked repeatedly

SQL> select username,account_status from dba_users where username like 'SAPSR3';

SAPSR3 LOCKED(TIMED)

I've unlocked the acct, and then changed the pwd w/ brconnect -f chpass.....yet it keeps getting locked time after time.

How can I trace back to which process (external/internal) that is trying to connect using the schema owner acct w/ the wrong pwd (so I can get it sync'd)?

In SM21 or the WP tracefile logs I am not seeing this level of info about what process is doing it.

Thanks
