Hi Basis Administrators,

I build standalone oracle database (non-SAP) server on Linex systems. After databasae creationg I implemented am getting problem while configuring the BR* tools. I followed snote-320457. It worked perfectly and I performed some actions like creating datafiles and new table spaces. After re-connected the br tolls I am getting the following error.

Please let me know if you have suggesition/solution.

Oracle DBA and Basis Role Separation

Quick question from a fairly new SAP DBA. I've been an Oracle DBA for MANY years and this is my first "gig" as the Oracle DBA for our SAP implementation. We have segregated the duties for Basis and the Database management piece. We have tried as much as possible to integrate the new SAP databases with our other Oracle databases as far as standards go. We mange quite a few Oracle databases other than SAP and need as much standardization as possible where we can within SAP guidelines of course.

The question I have is this. We, the DBA's, keep getting requests from Basis that they MUST have the sys and system passwords for these databases. If ALL of the database management is being done by the DBA staff, why would they need these passwords? I might add that we have been live for a few years, this is a fully functional production environment. How common is splitting out these roles like we have done here? And when they are split, are they TRULY split? OK....3 questions. Thanks in advance for any responses.

RMAN backup error

Hi,

We have oracle database 11g on RHEL.

Every once in a while we have issues with the backup sometimes related with TSM backup server and sometimes the issue comes  even when there is no issue with the backup server.

Currently in our landscape we have issues in few SAP servers where the backup is not completing and going on error.

We have enabled RMAN to take the Full(levle-0) and follow it by incremental backup(levle-1) on week days.

By looking at the log of the backup, can I infer where the problem lies? Or do I need to check something else?

BR0278E Command output of 'SHELL=/bin/sh /oracle/<sid>/112_64/bin/rman nocatalog':

Change IP address

Dear Experts,

I would like to know if there's any impact to our Oracle DB If I change SAP server IP address from 192.x.x.x to 10.x.x.x

I do checked SAP note 403708 & 88346, but it doesn't mention about the impact to Oracle DB.

Thanks in advance for your kind reply and advice.

Determine tables for online reorg

Hello,

Our Customer has asked us to do reorganisation of Database to claim free space.

I search a lot still confuse about few aspects abt it, as new to oracle.

How can we determine which table needs the reorganisation, which help us to reclaim maximum space.

I have gone through below notes

646681 and 541538

But these gives the generic concept about reorg, bt still didnt got the clear idea.

Any help is appreciated.

Ashish

Hi,

I have a connection to an external oracle 11g database in dbco. Now. I have had to change that connection because the ip has changed and once I have also changed the settings in dbco the connection seems to have problem.

Testing the connection with ADBC_TEST_CONNECTION report I get the error ora-12518.

From oracle the connection works fine. If I connect to sql plus and run the sentence conn myuser / test@mydb the result is ok. In fact the oracle db is working in productive.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks a lot.

Regards.

Hi ,

i have been facing an issue with oracle recently for which i am unable to find a solution

i am running Oracle 11.2.0.3 on a linux server

the remote_os_authent parameter is set to true and the oracle id belongs is included in the 'oper' group.

[oracle@gbrlon05lx236 ~]$ id

uid=1280(oracle) gid=308(oinstall) groups=308(oinstall),300(dba),301(oper),302(sapsys),303(sapinst),309(asmadmin),310(asmoper),311(asmdba)

SQL> show parameter remote_os_authent;

NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE

------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------

remote_os_authent                    boolean     TRUE

However, sqlplus "/as sysoper" does not work and i get a ORA-01031

[oracle@hometest ~]$ sqlplus "/as sysoper"

Please can anyone advise on what could be the possible causes for the connection to fail when tried with sysoper privelege.

TableSpace Auto-Extend

0
0

Hi,

In DB02 -> Space Overview -> Tablespaces

PSAPSR3      -  AutoExtend = "YES"   (5th Column)

Whats mean by this auto-extend here in Tablespace?

Is this means..... "A DataFile will add automatically, after reaching to the maximium limit of the Datafiles"?

Datafiles are automatically extended only until they reach the MAXSIZE limit specified.... Afterwords do we need to add datafile manually or will that create automatically?

In Oracle level, Normally autoextend is enabled in datafiles.

(As i Know,   A Tablespace can NOT be "AutoExtend". It is a property of data file.)

Pls... Comment on this issue.

Oracle Statistics - Best Practice?

0
0

We run stats with brconnect weekly:

brconnect -u / -c -f stats -t all

I'm trying to understand how some of our stats are old or stale.  Where's my gap?  We are running Oracle 11g and have Table Monitoring set on every table.  My user_tab_modifications is tracking changes in just over 3,000 tables.  I believe that when those entries surpass 50% changed, then they will be flagged for the above brconnect to update their stats.  Correct?

Plus, we have our DBSTATC entries.  A lot of those entries were last analyzed some 10 years ago.  Does the above brconnect consider DBSTATC at all?  Or do we need to regularly run the following, as well?

brconnect -u / -c -f stats -t dbstatc_tab

I've got tables that are flagged as stale, so something doesn't seem to be quite right in our best practice.

SQL> select count(*) from dba_tab_statistics
  2  where owner = 'SAPR3' and stale_stats = 'YES';

  COUNT(*)
----------
      1681

I realize that stats last analyzed some ten years ago does not necessarily mean they are no longer good but I am curious if the weekly stats collection we are doing is sufficient.  Any best practices for me to consider?  Is there some kind of onetime scan I should do to check the health of all stats?

BR1301W Error message from likeywlib:

===...could not load SSF library D:\usr\sap\\D00\exe\sapcrypto.dll .

BR1301W Error message from likeywlib: 543 likey_init: Couldn't load SAPSECULIB ("D:\usr\sap\\D00\exe\sapcrypto.dll") using funct

BR1301W Error message from likeywlib: 542 likey_init: At least one more attempt to load the SAPSECULIB will follow.

I've checked that  sapcrypto.dll and sapsecu.dll files exists on kernel folder.
