Installing Two Data base instances on Exadata machine

$

Hi,

We are trying to install two Database instances on a single host
(Exadata Machine) We have already installed the first DB instance successfully
and trying to install the second DB instance on the

same host and with same oracle home (binaries) but the problem is that the installation
master is detecting first DB instance and giving us the option for either
Install MCOD or to remove and recreate the database.

We don't want to install the MCOD installation but want to use the shared oracle
home (binaries) for both the instances. Kindly help us on how to go about it.

Hi All,

Currently I have the compressed(.Z extension) online filesystem backup and trying to restore the backup through control file., I manually uncompressed and  restored all the files in quality system and generate control file.

Now I am facing the error while running control file -

Oracle file SNCF.ORA - what is this?

Hi Experts

I have recently performed a hardware migration which included a unicode conversion and oracle upgrade.  The oracle upgrade went from 10 to 11.2.0.3.0.  I have noticed a new file in the oracle_home\database folder and I am unable to find out information about it.  It looks like a backup of the control file (which I have the standard 3 copies in other directories already setup).     I would like to know if this files is essential to restore/disaster recovery - so I now need to ensure the control file is in 4 places or can I use this file to restore the other 3 controlfiles in case of the disaster recover scenario but the database will still start without it.

Many Thanks

Liz

Dear Experts,

I would like to know if there's any impact to our Oracle DB If I change SAP server IP address from 192.x.x.x to 10.x.x.x

I do checked SAP note 403708 & 88346, but it doesn't mention about the impact to Oracle DB.

Thanks in advance for your kind reply and advice.

Object Versions invalid after DB actions (table copy)

$

Hi all,

recently I have encountered some weird issues during a little archiving run I'm doing on MM_MATBEL.

Tables involved:

IMEXT

MKPF

MSEG

MSEGO1

MSEGO2

NAST

OIAQB

After the archiving was done I logically went for an online reorg of these tables. This worked for all tables, except for MSEG. The reason was the following:

BR1962W Table SAPSR3.MSEG has more than 255 columns

BR1967W Table SAPSR3.MSEG would be implicitly decompressed during reorganization

BR1111I Reorganization of table SAPSR3.MSEG will be skipped

So apparently the table had been compressed in the past (when it had less than 255 columns) and now cannot be rebuilt anymore with compression.

In the following note they mention a workaround/solution:

http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1872983

The solution consists of copying the compressed table into a newly created table. After some problems with the script (which will be fixed) and consulting SAP Support I finally succeeded in rebuilding the tables.

After this rebuild there are numerous dumps (LOAD_FORMAT_ERROR,  DDIC_TYPE_INCONSISTENCY, LOAD_TYPE_VERSION_MISMATCH, etc...) in SAP itself, rendering the system practically unusable.

One workaround is to manually re-activate the object generating the shortdump, this does solve the issue on that object, but that's it.

I can hear you think: "Run SGEN, you stupid". Well, I did, and it did not help, or at least not much. It did regenerate some objects, but apparently it's not sufficient.

To me it seems like some inconsistency in the Dictionary, caused by the tables that were rebuilt. Is there a way that we can regenerate the Data Dictionary of SAP? Or at least fix the DDL inconsistencies?

The tables that I have recreated using note 1872983 are:

homogeneous system copy on Oracle x86_64

Hi There

I am doing a homogeneous system copy from Oracle 9i, 32bit,Win 2003 , 4.7 Ext 1.10 to  4.7 Ext1.10, Oracle 11g 64bit, win 2008 R2.

It is done just for upgrade purposes and not a permanent installation.  I have done a export of the database(source system) successfully and now I get a error message which I cannot pass When installing the target system. The central instance installation of Target system went through fine, however the Database instance gives me a error message on the phase : Database Instance Parameter. The system does not display the Oracle Home ie the database home field (with the drop down) is empty in this screen. If I click next I then get the error message. I have change the Oracle home parameter on environment variable and still I do not see any displayed variable.

I found similar notes 919106 and 967121 to my error but they are not able to fix my issue. When I look at the sapinst_dev log file at the end, the error message is : sapdataHome is empty after dialog. The above notes have this issue but does not answer /fix it.

Can you kindly assist.

Looking for BR*Tools for the 6.40 Kernel

Dear Experts,

I am now playing with my old NetWeaver 2004 test systems... I was considering to create a small test system,

based on Oracle 10 and Linux. I easily found all the 6.40 Kernels in the Support Packages and Patches archive,

though the DBATL* files are for oracle 9 !!

As I didn't find a separate entry for BR*Tools in the "Browse our download catalog" menu, I decided to go for the

full text search, specifying: DBATOOLS PACKAGE FOR ORACLE 10.

Unfortunately, for the KERNEL 6.40, I only found packages for TRU64, not for Linux:

DBATL700O10_44-20000202.SAR   DBATOOLS Package for Oracle 10g

Support Package SAP KERNEL 6.40 64-BIT TRU64 64bit ORACLE

DBATL700O10_52-20000956.SAR   DBATOOLS Package for Oracle 10g

Support Package SAP KERNEL 7.00 32-BIT Linux on IA32 32bit ORACLE

DBATL710O10_42-10004181.SAR   DBATOOLS Package for Oracle 10g
Support Package SAP KERNEL 7.10 64-BIT UNICODE AIX 64bit ORACLE

Based on the listed search results. I can assume the following:

SAP offers DBATL700* for KERNEL 6.40 on Linux.. The second hit result I am showing, suggests DBATL700* as well for KERNEL 7.00.

And starting from KERNEL 7.10, the file is then named DBATL710*

Does that mean, that for the KERNEL 6.40 for Oracle 10, I can download a DBATL700* file for Linux ?

Thanks a lot !!

Determine tables for online reorg

Hello,

Our Customer has asked us to do reorganisation of Database to claim free space.

I search a lot still confuse about few aspects abt it, as new to oracle.

How can we determine which table needs the reorganisation, which help us to reclaim maximum space.

I have gone through below notes

646681 and 541538

But these gives the generic concept about reorg, bt still didnt got the clear idea.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi ,

I have set REMOTE_OS_AUTHENT parameter value to false in my UAT server. Post that I am not able to start the SAP. I got error that "*ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied". But I have set the same value in another UAT server and it got started.

Is there any dependencies for the parameter?  Please suggest me on this.

Hi,

we will migrate to Unicode in few months, we have already try some test but I've got a question.... is it possible, during import phase, specify a custom tablespace for a particular table? We would like to store ACCITI in a custom tablespace due size and to reduce I/O on all other tables.

How?

Thank so much.

Bye.
